Scripps Clinic Medical Group

Scripps Mercy Hospitals and Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas started the year with newly elected leadership in place.

Neurologist James Grisolia, MD has been elected as the chief of staff of the 1,100-member Scripps Mercy campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista, while Anesthesiologist Randall Goskowicz, MD has taken over the 921-member medical team at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Both physicians’ new roles took effect on January 1.

During their two-year term, each will play key roles in driving continuous improvement in the delivery of healthcare services to the more than 285,000 combined patients who visit the hospitals, in addition to serving as a medical staff liaison to administrative staff at the two locations, as well as to Scripps Health’s board of trustees.

“In addition to the exceptional care he delivers to our patients, Dr. Grisolia has demonstrated exemplary leadership as he enters his 40th year on the hospital’s medical staff,” said Tom Gammiere, Scripps Health’s corporate senior vice president and southern regional chief executive. “His guidance will benefit physicians, staff and patients alike.”

Dr. Grisolia has been a member of the medical staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego since 1983 and has served on the medical staff at Scripps Mercy Chula Vista since 1986. Scripps Mercy’s San Diego and Chula Vista campuses previously operated as separate hospitals before merging in 2004 as one hospital and one medical staff on two campuses. He succeeds the hospital’s outgoing chief of staff, Beverly Harrell-Bruder, MD.

Dr. Goskowicz said his principal priorities lie in the ongoing development of Scripps Encinitas into a premier regional center of excellence and the continued effort to attract superior clinical staff to further optimize the hospital as a significant community resource.

“At Scripps Encinitas, we have been a highly collegial group that has always been supportive of our staff members,” Dr. Goskowicz said. “It is an honor and privilege to lead this fine group of clinicians.”

He succeeded outgoing Chief of Staff Alexie Nguyen, MD.

“For more than two decades, Dr. Goskowicz has served with distinction on the Scripps Encinitas medical staff,” said Carl Etter, senior vice president and regional chief executive for Scripps hospitals in North County. “He will provide strong leadership as we continue moving forward with major modernization projects while offering the highest level of care to all of our patients.
