For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, California has resumed its normal process to predetermine eligibility for Medi-cal enrollees starting April 2023. The first Medi-cal discontinuances will occur July 1, 2023. Physicians need to be aware of this so that practices can stay vigilant in verifying eligibility for their Medi-cal patients come July or risk non-payment for out of network services. Additionally, for physicians that have capitated contracts, it is estimated that up to 2 million beneficiaries may lose coverage during the next year, which will impact practice's capitated payment.
